My paint mediums. oil, acrylic

All paintings start off as pencil sketches, or preliminaries. Then I project the sketches onto a stretched canvas. On occasion there may some digital work on the sketches, to give me a clearer idea of what I'm about to paint.

I start all paintings with acrylic paint, slightly mixed with a retardant. Since I layer my paint, I want the underpainting to dry within minutes so I can move on to the next layer. Then I continue with oil paint.

For the last 9 years most of my art was oil paint on stretched canvas.
I love the creamyness and easy handling of oil paint. The slow drying time allows me to take my time blending and "pushing" the paint around. I don't feel rushed. I mix walnut alkyd oil with my oils for better handling, to speed up drying times, and to give the painting a wet look when it is dry.

When the paintings are dry to the touch, they are sprayed with an intermediate varnish. The edges of the canvas are painted black, so no picture framing is required.

my approach to my art

Like most artists, I like to create images that excite me. I could go on about the concepts and stylistic formulas, but it is really about "sensation". I have to feel something for the images I create. For the last few years I've been painting beautiful women. Each painting is manifestation of beauty. Most women I paint look back at me, as if to love me back. This way I share an intimate bond with them. I guess you could say that I produce art that arouses me. (in a clean way, of course).

A few years ago I painted surreal work that was intended to freak me out. My aim was to be weird. I am naturally odd, or eccentric. The paintings were expressions of that side of me. I used to be intimidated by my earlier paintings.
One day I may paint more surreal work. It really depends on my headspace.
